Update your Apple Device Wirelessly

If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.
If you need more space when updating wirelessly
If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because the software needs more space for the update, tap Continue to allow apps to be removed. After installation is complete, those apps are automatically reinstalled. If you tap Cancel instead, you can delete content manually from your device to add more space.
If you need more space for an update on your Apple Device
If there isn't enough space for an update on your device, try this. Updating to the latest version of software provides the latest features, security updates, and bug fixes. If a message says that there isn't enough space to download and install an update, manage your space with recommendations or connect to your computer to install the update.
Manage space on your Apple Device
To make space on your device, try the recommendations. You can also delete or offload apps and content. You don't need to purchase more iCloud storage. What's the difference between device storage and iCloud storage?
Go to Settings > General > [device] Storage.
Scroll to the Recommendations section to see tips.
To turn on the recommendation, tap Enable, or tap the recommendation to review the content that you can delete.
Troubleshooting the process
Power up!
If your device doesn't update you may need to charge your iPad. In order for the iPad to update it has to be at least 50% when on battery power, or over 20% when plugged in and charging. Please charge your device daily to ensure proper functioning of the device. If you have lost your charger, please go to the school office to get a new charger.
Free up Storage
Another issue preventing your iPad from updating is that you don't have enough space on your iPad to complete the update. Updates can contain a few GB of data that is needed to be installed on your device. You may need to manage your storage. You can do this be going to settings and selecting iPad Storage. It will show you the apps using the largest amount of storage. It is recommended to Offload Apps rather than Delete them if possible. If you have to Delete an app, go to the Files app and move the files from "On My iPad" to the Cloud before deleting.
Offloading Apps vs Deleting Apps
To free up space you can look at your apps and Offload Apps that you aren't using frequently. This will save the data and you can reinstall the app. Some apps like GarageBand store files and projects in the app. If you delete this app you could lose your projects. If you Offload the app your data would remain on the iPad and be accessible when you reinstall the app.
